“Two of Ireland’s most innovative Indie labels join forces to release music from two of Ireland’s most enigmatic bands. The brand new double A-Side single ‘Neverwood/Vittima di Cucina’ from ‘Out On A Limb’ Record’s ‘windings’ and Popical Island’s ‘Land Lovers’ is paving the way for a shared vinyl album from both bands due out in late February. Both bands will embark on a small nationwide tour to support the split vinyl release, the first of its kind between the two iconic Irish labels”.

For me, other than adding a marvelous duality to this two sided release, these two Irish bands have not only produced some fantastic new material but jarred open the door to their scintillating back-catalogues. Dublin based ‘Land Lovers’ have cut a caustic swathe through modern Indie/Power-Pop boundaries with their 2011 release ‘Confidants‘- Jangly Guitar-Pop with singalong ethics, a very sweet album indeed. ‘Windings‘ hail from Limerick City and again there’s a treasure trove of quality sounds to greet the unsuspecting ear, I’d recommend ‘I Am Not The Crow‘, it’s surprisingly poignant but has a more deliciously alternative appeal – No facial hair was harmed in any of these recordings.

“The track ‘Neverwood’ is the first new windings’ material since the release of their Choice Music Prize nominated album, ‘I Am Not The Crow’. The 5-piece have spent the intervening time gigging in Ireland and the UK and writing the tracks that will be part of a new windings’ release later in the year. ‘Neverwood’ zips along with a sparse verse before kicking in with some sci-fi Joey Santiagoesque guitar in a big chorus. windings are at their best here, with all five parts of the machine pulling in the same dynamic direction”.

“Land Lovers meanwhile are one of the bands spearheading Popical Island’s rise to Irish indie’s top table and ‘Vittima di Cucina’ is as much Shonen Knife as it is They Might Be Giants. The Land Lovers’ track pelts along neck and neck with ‘Neverwood’ in terms of literate and bristling vitality. Continuing with the intelligent songwriting that marked their previous album Confidants, ‘Vittima di Cucina’ opens the latest Land Lovers’ release with its foot firmly to the floor”.
